Abstract
'Social care farms' enjoy growing popularity in the Netherlands. These are fully operational farms that offer a range of services to people with care needs. Green environments are increasingly recognised as beneficial to human health. Although these salutary effects have yet to be explained, many positive experiences are reported in practice. These suggest that working on social care farms, public garden plots, children's farms, or environmental and landscape management projects can help many types of clients to improve their sense of well-being. The challenge is now to explore what specific effects these green environments have on different client groups
