Abstract

This document is the validation report of the WorldCereal products for 2021 (phase 1).
The list of validated products includes: • Temporary cropland extent, a binary map for crops with a less-than-one-year growing cycle. Sugar cane, asparagus and cassava are also considered as annual crops, even though they remain in the field for more than one year.
• Seasonal crop type products as binary maps for the maize and wheat growing seasons as defined by the global crop calendars, showing where maize and cereals are grown. Cereals include wheat, barley and rye. • Seasonally irrigated cropland, defined by the WorldCereal system as a piece of land that is extensively irrigated during a specific growing season where without irrigation applied at regular intervals, the yield of this cropland would be significantly reduced or non-existent. • Active cropland maps by seasons.
The validation report includes the description of validation approach for each product, description of the data sets used for validation, and the validation results at different levels, and conclusions.
