Abstract

In March 2006, a total area of 50 ha Pacific oysters was removed from four natural oyster beds in the Oosterschelde. The goal of this experiment was to study how efficient the oysters could be removed with mussel dredges, what are the costs of removal, what are the environmental effects (morphology, sediment composition, macrofauna and birds) and what is the rate of recovery of the sediment, the benthic community and the oysters. The present report is an interim report and presents the results of the monitoring of the short-term effects (up to T3, winter 2006 - 2007).
