    Abstract

    Water-hardenable alginate compositions contain as filler a combination comprising (A) cellulose or a water-insoluble derivative and (B) starch or a water-insoluble derivative, optionally together with a diatomaceous earth, perlite, talc or argillaceous earth filler. Water-hardenable alginate compositions contain: (1) alkali metal alginates (10-15 %); (2) calcium sulfate hemi- and/or di- hydrate (5-15 %); (3) sodium or potassium (pyro)phosphate (0.1-2 %); (4) magnesium- or zinc-oxide (0-5 %); (5) sodium- or potassium-silicofluoride or -fluorotitanate (0-4 %); (6) a mixture (50-80 %) of (A) cellulose or a water-insoluble derivative and (B) starch or a water-insoluble derivative; and (7) diatomaceous earth, perlite, talc or argillaceous earth filler (0-30 %). An Independent claim is also included for an alginate composition as above but containing filler (7) at 5-30 %.
