Abstract
As part of the Partial Revision of the North Sea Programme 2022-2027, an assessment of the socio-economic effects of wind farm development on fisheries is necessary. For this purpose, quantitative historical data were collected and interviews were conducted with fishermen and traders. In the period 2010-2019, an average of 1.3 million kg of fish per year was landed from the areas under investigation, which decreased to 0.74 million kg per year in 2020-2022. Of the Dutch landing value of langoustines, 8.1% comes from Area 6/7. The areas are most important for the fishing regions of Urk (3.2%) and Kop van Noord-Holland (2.1%). Area 6/7 is most important for the Dutch cutters at 2.5%. Crowding effects may occur as a result of the closure of areas. According to interviews with flatfish traders, flatfish is important for the profit margin of the fish trade.
