Visclusters in Nederland (monitoring 2022 en 2023): Sociaaleconomische effecten en afhankelijkheden voor de keten entoeleverende industrie aan wal van Noordzeevisserij

Research output: Book/ReportReportProfessional

Abstract

This monitoring study is a follow-up to the baseline study (Hoekstra et al., 2023). For almost all fishing regions, land-based companies active in the fish clusters had a decline in turnover in 2023 compared to 2022. Employment in contrast, remarkably, declined minimally or even remained stable on average per company in the various fishing regions. The regions Katwijk-Scheveningen, IJmuiden and Urk showed the smallest decrease of alle regions in 2023 in turnover. In 2022, companies experienced increasing turnover on average compared to 2021 for each link in the chain. From 2022 to 2023, it was the opposite with auctions, transporters and suppliers seeing the most decline in turnover respectively. Dependence on North Sea fisheries continues to decline as companies increasingly (of necessity) divert to other markets and products as far as possible. In particular, imports of aquaculture products have proved important to the fish processing and fish wholesale industries.
