Abstract

[...]in EU legislation this form of risk analysis (regulated in Article 10 of Regulation 178/2002) focusing on transparency and informing external stakeholders is distinguished from risk communication within the risk analysis framework where it is intended as an interactive exchange of information and opinions (Article 3(13) Regulation (EC) 178/2002). For its conceptualisation of risk communication, the document quotes the Codex Alimentarius (instead of the General Food Law that provides EFSA its binding legal basis) as 'the exchange of information and opinions concerning risk and risk-related factors among risk assessors, risks managers, consumers and other interested parties.'
