System archetypes of the food environment: A systematic literature review to identify leverage points to enable the transition to more plant-based diets

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstract

Abstract

Shifting to plant-based diets is crucial for human and planetary health, yet research often overlooks the complexities of the food environment. This study applies system archetypes (SAs) to analyze feedback loops and delays in European food environments. A complex review of 47 articles identified six key SAs, including “Fixes that fail” and “Shifting the burden.” Expert panel discussions highlighted the socio-political structures sustaining these archetypes. The findings highlight both the systemic barriers and solution pathways to accelerate the protein transition.
