SWAPS version 1.0; technical reference manual

    Abstract

    SWAPS is a one-dimensional soil-vegetation-atmosphere-transfer model (SVAT) developed at SC-DLO. A description of the theory behind SWAPS and the processes which it is intended to simulate is given. These processes are interception, vegetation transpiration, soil evaporation, soil moisture transport, soil heat transport, and radiative transfer (in a vegetation canopy). Many of these processes are interdependent: evaporation and/or transpiration link the surface energy balance and soil moisture balance; transpiration is subject to biophysical controls.
