Abstract

The invention relates to an enzyme preparation which catalyzes the phosphorylation and/or dephosphorylation of a substrate other than adenosine diphosphate (ADP) or polyphosphate, wherein ADP is converted into adenosine monophosphate (AMP). In particular, the substrate is a sugar or a sugar derivative. The enzyme of the preparation is novel and is active at a temperature above 70 degree C. The enzyme can be prepared from hyperthermophilic microorganisms such as those of the genus Pyrococcus.
