SDS-Page analysis of proteins in capsule formulation

Research output: Book/Report › Report › Academic

Abstract

A set of nine samples were analysed using SDS-Page to detect and, if possible, quantify the presence of pea proteins. Two samples containing pea protein starting material (as reference), an unprocessed pea capsule sample and 2x3 capsule samples with bottom layer, top layer and top layer filtered samples were analysed. SDS-Page analysis of the protein products showed a typical pea protein pattern for the starting material with various bands for the Vicilin and Legumin which cannot distinguish between legumin and legumin A or, vicilin and Vicilin 47K. The capsule contained mostly the same bands but in a lower quantity. The samples after the intended application showed the protein in the bottom layer sample which is almost identical to the starting pea sample with a clearly lower content of lipoxygenase. In the top layer a low amount of pea protein was detectable only after concentrating the sample. No protein was detectable at the dilution used for the filtered sample.
