Abstract
Cities will be more exposed to urban water management challenges, such as flooding, droughts, and stormwater overflow, due to global climate change. The expected increase in extreme weather events, both precipitation and droughts, puts cities under pressure to deal with too much or too little water. Previously, the issues were often tackled by implementing gray infrastructural solutions, but in recent years, more attention has been given to solutions that build upon the natural system. These nature-based solutions (NBSs) are now being adopted to create strategies and systems for resilient urban water management. NBS do not only create resilient (urban) ecosystems but also simultaneously benefit biodiversity and human well-being. This book chapter aims to investigate the current state-of-the-art of resilient urban water management with NBS. The findings showcase how incorporating NBS into urban water management does not only improve urban resilience but also drives the necessary shift toward more sustainable and adaptive cities.
