The chapter-contributions’ order follows different dimensions that can be discerned for describing regulatory content and effect: public-private, mandatory-voluntary, prescription-persuasion, rules-principles, ex-ante-ex-post and centralisation-decentralisation. The book shows that the regulatory toolbox to provide food safety has become more diverse in course of time and that the insight in the social effects of the application of such tools has increased.
