Abstract

The primary objective of this FreshProducePEFCR is to develop a consistent and specific set of rules tocalculate the environmental impact of fresh fruits and vegetables. Equally important is the objective toenable comparisons and comparative assertions in all cases where this is feasible, relevant, and appropriate. This FreshProducePEFCR should facilitate to make environmental footprint studies easier, faster, and lesscostly. This FreshProducePEFCR – Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules for Fresh Produce – isdeveloped as much as possible in alignment with the most recent guidance for developing ProductEnvironmental Footprint Category Rules (European Commission, 2021). It is, however, not fully compliantwith the PEF method, as it was developed outside of the official PEF framework, and connecting to the officialEF datasets (for background data) was therefore not possible.
