This business plan focuses on the establishment of a slaughterhouse, one of the essential elements of a sustainable and profitable poultry meat value chain. There is a growing demand for poultry meat in the Zambezi Valley, and currently a large part of the consumed broilers comes from other parts of the country or are imported from Brazil. The Tete province was selected as a case study within the ZVDA operational area. Over the past ten years, the poultry meat production in Mozambique has proven to be successful. The sector has quickly grown to become at 75% self-sufficient, following a long period of a high import dependency. This is due to different reasons such as the lobby strength of the Mozambican Poultry Association, clever marketing campaigns, intensive training programmes and investments in more production of locally grown soy, to name a few.
