Abstract
We argue in this article that it is essential that spatial planning is based on the natural system to safeguard safety and liveability in the future. This requires a new role for all stakeholders involved, including the waterboards. We call upon the newly chosen boards to be visionary and take this long term, spatial planning oriented role.
The article thus connects with the debate on ‘soil and water as guiding principle / bodem water sturend’ for spatial planning, based on our experiences with the regional 2120 visions that we are developing with partners in various regions.
