Abstract

Sustainability standards are increasingly used in the livestock sector.
Insight into their actual contribution to sustainability is limited.
This paper sets out a research agenda to study the role that standards play.
We focus on the role of standard developers, consumers, producers and scientists.
Standards need to be reliable and make an actual improvement to sustainability.
