Abstract

On request of the province of Noord-Holland (Netherlands) a Defragmentation Plan Noord-Holland has been developed. The plan provides an overview of bottleneck locations for wildlife in the provincial road network, i.e. locations where the viability of populations is affected and/or are characterized by frequent roadkill of wildlife. The plan presents the expected improvement for wildlife, in terms of population viability, if these bottlenecks will be solved by road mitigation measures. The Defragmentation Plan Noord-Holland also provides an overview of the types of wildlife crossing structures and wildlife fences that will be needed to solve the problem of habitat fragmentation at each bottleneck location.
