Ontsmetting van drainwater met (Quarantaine) organismen: Rapport BO Fytosanitair

Abstract

During research activities with Quarantine (Q) organisms, it is extremely important that no spread of these organisms can occur via waste flows. This study investigated under which conditions certain (Q) organisms are completely eliminated in drainage water of Q permit holders during cultivation on substrate in greenhouses. Existing disinfection methods, namely heating, UV-treatment and ozone treatment, were tested for this purpose. The organisms that were investigated in this project are the plant viruses ToMV, ToBRFV, EMV, and PVX, the viroid PSTVd, the fungus Fusarium (Forc) and the bacterium Clavibacter sepedonicus. These organisms were selected in consultation with the NVWA. Whether the disinfection method led to complete elimination of the (Q) organisms differed per organism. For example, within the project, heating at 85°C for 3, 4 or 5 minutes, led to the elimination of ToMV, ToBRFV, PVX, EMV, Fusarium (Forc) and Clavibacter sepedonicus, however the viroid PSTVd was not completely inactivated by these treatments. In addition, various conditions, such as the presence of organic material, can influence the effectiveness of the disinfection.
