    Abstract

Anthurium grown in pots regularly show serious damage on white flowers with green blots and stripes, but sometimes damage occurs also on red flowers. Plants with these symptoms were collected in commercial greenhouses and the symptoms were photographed. The plants were dissected in the laboratory in order to find the cause of the symptoms. Mites of the family Tarsonemidae were one the suspected causes of these symptoms, but in none of the plants mites were detected. As a result of these observations we are not able to conclude that tarsonemid mites are the cause of the symptoms, but we are also not able to exclude this possibility. In order to further investigate into the cause of the symptoms, other possibilities than noxious organisms should be investigated also.
