NPPL-R Validatieonderzoek GRoW tomaten-oogstrobot

Research output: Book/ReportReportProfessional

Abstract

In 2025, the NPPL-R program conducted a validation of the GRoW tomato harvesting robot, developed by MetoMotion and Ridder. Test location was at the tomato grower Lans. Wageningen University & Research investigated the technical performance and economic potential of automated harvesting of cocktail vine tomatoes in greenhouses. The robot harvested up to approximately 90% of the vines that met predefined crop criteria. Harvest success was found to be highly dependent on crop structure and cultivation strategy. The robot requires supervision by an operator. Additionally, a generic Excel calculation model was developed to explore the economic feasibility of tomato-picking robots, depending on the scenario.
