Abstract

The dairy farm Hoeve Stein was converted from a conventional into an organic nature-oriented farm. This was the result of a close collaboration between the farming family, the province, the municipality and the State Forest Service. Important building blocks were the buy-off of the devaluation of the land, solid advisory reports on the business model and the ecology, and experimentation with nature management. This report reviews the development of the farm and its ecological values. In addition, it investigates whether farmers in the neighbourhood consider Hoeve Stein as good example that is worth following, as was the intention of the project.
