Abstract

Five rose companies that switched from HPS to hybrid (HPS and/or LED) lighting were monitored during the winter of 2022-2023 in terms of greenhouse climate, energy consumption, and product quality. LED reduces electricity demand, but its use sometimes shows a negative correlation with bud colour and vase life. Although causality of these correlations has not been established, it is currently recommended to avoid a high proportion of LED in the light mix, increase ventilation, and use less lower heating and more top heating.
