Abstract

For stands of Scots pine and Douglas fir, we compare business results of even-age and uneven-age management. Stand characteristics have been calculated using the EFISCEN-space forest growth model. Costs and financial results have been calculated based on literature and expert knowledge for different scenarios. Which management type has the highest financial result, depends on the assumptions in the calculations for, among other things, management (size of the ground area), operating costs (planting and harvesting costs), and business economic aspects (interest rate and wood prices). In particular, the level of the interest rate determines the management type that leads to the highest financial result. In addition, the starting point of calculation (stand age) determines which management type has the highest financial result.
