    Abstract

The SWATRE model has proven to be a versatile and powerful package for water and salinity management. A historic overview of SWATRE applications is presented as well as recent results achieved in Argentina and India. The accuracy of SWATRE is evaluated by comparisons of predictions with field data. The soil physical properties are crucial in the calibration process. In combination with geographical information systems, SWATRE can be used to regionalize on-farm water management.
