Membrane crumpling and restricted swelling on onion phases

Abstract

A deviation from one-dimensional swelling behavior in onion phases was observed. This is explained in terms of crumpling of each membrane due to its flexibility together with a lateral membrane tension which depends on the degree of dilution.
