Abstract

Within the Regional Deal Nature-inclusive Agriculture, an area-based approach to nature-inclusive agriculture was worked on in eight areas in the Northern Netherlands between 2019 and 2025, in which knowledge and instruments were developed and applied. A process monitoring recorded the progress of this Regional Deal and reflected on developments during its term and on the extent to which a foundation has been laid for the acceleration and scaling up of nature-inclusive agriculture. Although much has been achieved within the Regional Deal through an approach that focused on diversity between areas and connecting to ongoing area processes, it is uncertain whether a foundation has really been laid for the intended acceleration and scalingup of nature-inclusive agriculture due to the absence of clear goals for the nature-inclusiveness of agriculture, problems with policy alignment, limited attention to learning during the process and low involvement of key food chain companies.
