Abstract

The aim of the Exe-Kas project is to save energy by dehumidifying greenhouse air by means of a concentrated salt solution. By doing this less ventilation on high humidity levels is needed which result in less heat loss through the ventilation opening. The day screens can then also be used more often, which means that even more energy can be saved. As part of the Exe-Kas project, the greenhouse climate uniformity (temperature and relative humidity at different heights and lengths in the greenhouse) is determined in this report. Based on the 2 days of dehumidification with a concentrated salt solution, it can be concluded that the dehumidification of greenhouse air by means of a concentrated salt solution - in combination with blowing in of this dehumidified air under the crop - has no influence on the climate uniformity in the greenhouse. However, the 2-day period that the dehumidification system was on is too short to allow the conclusions to be released on a whole growing season. In order to be able to draw conclusions for a practical situation, it is important to measure the climate uniformity throughout the year and to measure in longer greenhouses. The method of measurement outlined in this report is a suitable approach to determine climate uniformity in greenhouses.
