Abstract
The influence of the soil and of water conditions on the rural landscape is illustrated by a detailed study in the loamy sand region around the village Wouw, where the landscape is completely dominated by agricultural conditions. The characteristic geology, soil conditions and hydrology of this region are described and their influence on reclamation for farming and the development of agriculture. A suitability rating for arable and for grassland proved also that present landuse depends on the natural factors.
