Abstract

Efficient water management is increasingly relevant in the food industry. Exploiting water reuse opportunities in planning production activities is a key part of this. We study integrated water management and production planning in cheese production. For this, we develop a water-integrated lot sizing and scheduling approach for multi-stage hybrid flow shops. We combine continuous and discrete time grids to efficiently model production lots and water flows, as well as several practical considerations.
