Abstract

Insects are considered to be a valuable protein source for the future. In this contribution, the application of insects in foods for pet dogs and cats is
considered. These pets are valued family members and this anthropomorphism is an important concept for potential application of insect in pet foods.
Safety, palatability and nutritional value are fundamental for all pet foods whereas therapeutic functionalities, naturalness and sustainability link to niche markets.
