    Abstract

In many cities around the world people in deprived areas are excluded from the mainstream socio-economic development. This is a complex phenomenon with many causes. A case study in four cities shows that green measures can play a role in the fight against exclusion. Since little is known about this, the focus for further research is identified. This concerns the mapping of the relations between green and exclusion, three substantive topics (green and health, green district economy, ‘ third space ‘), research focused on participation and urban policy and finally studies into the foundation of environmental justice.
