N2 - Light is crucial for plant growth, but excessive exposure can be harmful. Highly diffuse lenticular lamellae can optimize light distribution, here we research if this can also save energy. Calculation show that these lamellae could potentially increase fruit vegetable crop yields (up to 17%) and reduce CO₂ emissions per unit of product, with a payback period of 2-3 years, however, no absolute energy savings per cultivation area are achieved. In light-sensitive crops, increased light tolerance can lower artificial lighting needs by 22-34%, leading to a 4-6 year payback period based on the saving on energy costs.
