Greenhouse gases produced by maize silages treated with different inoculants : harvesting season 2023

Research output: Book/ReportReportProfessional

Abstract

This report shows the results of an experiment performed with whole crop maize, harvested and ensiled for the experiment in mini silos. The mini silos were monitored for total gas consumption and gas production: during the anaerobic ensiling process, and after opening, to simulate a feed-out phase. We tested four treatments: one with low compaction, and three with recommended compaction with or without the use of inoculants. Using inoculants during the ensiling phase will promote the conservation without increasing CO2 production; while it protects the silage from heating, feed losses and CO2 losses during the feed out phase.
