Abstract

This chapter discusses the development of research in the field of gender and international development in terms of important topics as well as theories and methodologies. The recurrence of gender equality on the international political agenda is underlined as an important precondition for sustainable development and food security in the light of an ever-growing world population. The chapter closes with an introduction to contributing chapters looking at the changes of rural gender relations from the viewpoint of international relations and international development politics
