From photons to farmers: Consilience in crop physiology

Research output: Book/ReportInaugural/farewell speech

Abstract

Consilience is the agreement between inductions drawn from different kinds of data sets within the same discipline or the merging of different kinds of knowledge, equally yoked together in a sort of syzygy. It played a significant role in the author’s contribution to the development of crop physiology and his attempts to seek synergy with social sciences. This is illustrated with examples from his research on photosynthesis and seed systems. Consilience enables crop physiologists to embrace complexity and fail better.
