Abstract

A recent study has demonstrated the technical feasibility of black soldier fly (BSF) production on residual flows from greenhouse horticulture. Based on technical data from this study, the current study identified costs, revenues and profitability of three types of production systems: a centralised, a decentralised collective, and a decentralised production system. An inventory of required investments, input streams in addition to available horticultural residual flows and production costs was made. Based on this inventory, the annual profitability, net present value (NCW) and internal rate of return (IRR) of the production systems were calculated.
