    Abstract

This chapter describes the experimental data used in the case-study. The data were collected at the Scottish Crop Research Institute at Dundee, Scotland, throughout the 1980s. A minimum of two years' data was collected for both the nitrogen-limited and the water-limited experiments. Data measured/analysed were: meteorological conditions, soil water profile, soil characteristics (physical and chemical), crop husbandry (leaf area development), crop growth and yield. The first year's data were used to calibrate the models, the second year's were used to validate the models. Some of the second year's data were withheld for participants to predict.
