Abstract
The first objective of this study was to determine to what extent VEM2022 energy requirements for dairy cows can predict observed dry matter intake on Dutch dairy farms and to what extent differences between observed and predicted dry matter intake can be explained by dietary factors and production characteristicssuch as milk production and milk contents of fat, protein and urea. The second objective of this study was to develop a generic correction factor to adjust predicted dry matter intake based on VEM2022-requirements to observed dry matter intake using a correction factor or a correction formula. A generic correction factor of 1.055 was established, where multiplication of the predicted VEM2022-intake by the generic correction factor of 1.055 resulted in an acceptable estimate of the observed dry matter intake.
