Abstract
Equisetum xascendens Lubienski & Bennert: the first record of a triploid hybrid horsetail for the Netherlands The triploid hybrid Equisetum xascendens Lubienski & Bennert, which incorporates two genomes of E. hyemale L. and one of E. ramosissimum Desf., is recorded from two locations in the Netherlands. This is for the first time that this hybrid has been recorded outside the German-French Rhine Valley. This paper presents the morphological characters that distinguish the hybrid from the diploid hybrid E. xmoorei Newman and both parent species and discusses the distribution of the E. hyemale-E. ramosissimum-complex in the Netherlands. It is shown that nearly all clones in the northwest of the country, previously attributed to E. hyemale, actually belong to the hybrid E. xmoorei.
