Abstract

In this report, results are presented of ammonia and particulate matter emission measurements on ECO Units, these are part of the ECO Zero system. Measurements were performed at a free range laying hen farm. Next to the poultry house three ECO Units were installed, these units are heat exchangers with an added cooling and air scrubbing function. The cooling system can reduce air temperatures during warm periods, which reduces the amount of needed ventilation capacity. By washing the outgoing air in the ECO Units with an acid, ammonia emission can be reduced. The way air is entering the poultry house, could have reduced the particulate matter concentration in the house. High manure belt aeriation could have led to a reduction of ammonia emission from the manure belt. The measurements show an ammonia reduction of 77% and a particulate matter reduction of 56% by the ECO Units.
