Abstract

BiPolar Plasma Ionisation from Faton B.V. is a technology used to improve air quality in livestock housing, among other things. The aim of using this technology in animal husbandry is to reduce the concentration of ammonia and particulate matter in animal housing, among other things. This report describes the results of measurements of concentrations and emissions of ammonia and particulate matter in a fattening pig barn. The aim of the measurements was to gain insight into the ability of this technology to reduce concentrations of ammonia and particulate matter in the room. The study had the character of a proof of principle. The measurements were carried out in two structurally equal rooms with fattening pigs in the same barn (case control measurement), between 22 July and 21 October 2023. In one of the rooms, BiPolar Plasma Ionisation technology from Faton B.V. was placed in the air inlet channel of the room. No effect of the installed ionisation systems on particulate matter concentrations or ammonia emissions was observed during the measurement period.
