In comparison with other EU countries, the Netherlands achieves a high agricultural production value per hectare of cultivated land. This is connected with the production package with a great deal of horticulture and livestock farming. Consequently, the use of inputs and the emissions per hectare are at a high level in the Netherlands. Great efforts are therefore required in order to counteract the negative consequences of this, despite the good progress that the Netherlands made in the period 2000-2010, particularly in comparison with the OECD countries.
