Abstract
This study applied the true price method, developed within the PPP ‘Echte en Eerlijke Prijs voor duurzame producten’, to conventional tulip bulbs. The results show that for tulip bulbs the real price gap largely consists of pollution costs and that cultivation contributes most to the real price gap. A number of methodological limitations of the real price method emerged from this study. The method is reliable enough to provide insight into the most important impacts (so-called hotspots) of tulip bulbs. Future research should focus on developing social impact methodologies to provide a more complete picture of the true price of a product. In addition, robust data is needed on all links in the chain so that a more accurate analysis can be made of the real price of tulip bulbs.
