There is a need for system innovations for future-proof agriculture that takes place within the boundaries of the natural environment and at the same time strengthens it. Agroforestry, in all its different manifestations, has the potential to be such a system innovation. Now that this system innovation is taking off and is being embraced by farmers and facilitated by governments, there is an opportunity and a necessity to follow this development. To generate reliable data about the promised performance, it is important to work with supported and standardized data collection protocols. This exploration focuses on providing advice for this purpose.
