Abstract
To evaluate scenarios for nature restoration, a landscape ecological decision-support system has been developed, a knowledge-based system integrated in a geographical information system. The grid-based application in the Central Open Space of the Netherlands (the COSMO model) is presented here. Four scenarios for nature restoration were evaluated. With the COSMO model, vegetation development and potential habitats of fauna species were simulated at ten, thirty and one hundred years from the beginning. The results are discussed.
