Abstract
The maximum pulling and pushing forces of a sample of 750 persons between 20 and 30 and over 50 years of age are presented. Both forces were measured in a free standing position that was related to opening a heavy door, which makes it possible to use the information in a standard on emergency exits. An addition is proposed to NEN 6082:1997 concerning human abilities to open unfastened, hinged doors that are on an escape route
