Abstract

This is the second par t of a literature study on soil health aspects in organic greenhouse production. Information is gathered about six impor tant fungal pathogens: Fusarium, Phomopsis, Pyrenochaeta, Pythium, Sclerotinia and Verticillium. Recognition of the symptoms and ecology of the pathogens is descr ibed, as are the opportunities for organic greenhouse growers to control these pathogens. Every type of pathogen needs a specific set of tools. • Generic measures are organic matter amendments and crop rotation. • More specific is the introduction of disease-specific antagonists. • More drastic and less specific are solar isation, biofumigation and steaming. At the end a table is presented with an overview to suppor t growers to manage the health of their soils.
