Abstract

Leaf tipburn in tomato is caused by weak cells, which is likely caused by lack of Ca-transport to young cells. In this trial is was confirmed that the occurrence of this tipburn is coinciding with heavy fruit load and it appeared that Ca levels in the youngest leaf tissue are decreased also during this period. In this trial it was tried to increase the Ca uptake was tried to increase by partly replacement of NO3 by Cl and by addition of polyphosphate, as was found in previous trials. However the results revealed that these treatments did not give any effect on tipburn nor on the Ca-level in the plant.
