Abstract

The EU Biofuels Directive (2003/30/EC) sets target of replacing 5.75% of transport by bio-fuels in 2010. Though targets have been decreased recently (2008) (NL and DE) it is experted that a significant part of the biodiesel will have to be imported. Brazil has proven with bioethanol that it can implement biofuels that acn compete with existing petroleum fuels and shoiuld be one of the main potential biodiesel suppliers. For a mature trade relationship to exists biodiesel will have to comply with EU sustainability and quality demands
